I couldn’t agree more. I always notice that when I come back after several months off, that I always drop the most weight initially because I’m a “beginner” again with the weights, even though I know the motions.
It’s all about variety and changing your program up.

is this kind of like what doug macguff is saying about strength training and skill training (efficiency) being 2 separate training parameters?

Sounds counter intuitive but I get it. I had neglected swings for quite a while. When I returned my previous form had gone along with some grip strength. But low and behold I registered a significant weight loss the next morning.
Some really great insights Dan. Makes a lot of sense.
I like this: get strong & run hills.

Good thoughts, I think you are exactly right.

Makes sense. But the efficient runner can still get a “burn” by sprinting hills; also by sprinting on the flat too or increasing duration. All just different ways of increasing the work done. 10 chin ups is getting easy for you so do 10 chin ups with a 35lb weight…or do 12 chin ups.
Probably explains why I get so hungry after I attempt strongman training, my in-efficiency at lifting all those odd-shaped objects means I’m working harder; burning more calories.
